LDC Round 5: Capitanes lose to Santiago Max- February 8, 2023
LDC is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 5 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
Santiago Basket - Immortals 75-90 Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Santiago: Immortals (#2) and Santiago Basket (#2). Santiago Basket was defeated at home 75-90 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Santiago Basket. They outrebounded Santiago Basket 50-31 including 23 on the offensive glass. Immortals looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Santiago Basket's players. American forward James Milton (203-1992, college: Stevenson) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import point guard Mark Hall (196-1994, college: St.Cloud St.) chipped in 19 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Hall is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Immortals players scored in double figures. American power forward Domont Wright (203-1997, college: Cleveland St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds and power forward Teodoro Romero (203-1990) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Immortals (4-1) keep a position of league leader, which they share with Santiago Max. Loser Santiago Basket keeps the second place with three games lost. Immortals' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena Capitanes. The biggest surprise took place in Santiago where host Santiago Max (4-1) beat league's leader Capitanes (3-2) 107-91 on Sunday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Santiago Max looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was Franklyn Sabater who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 assists. Moises Peralta chipped in 23 points. Guard Oliver Ferreira (189-1993) produced 25 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and forward Ernesto Rodriguez (194-1994) added 22 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Santiago Max and four Capitanes players scored in double figures. Santiago Max have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Immortals. Capitanes at the other side dropped to the third place with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Fenix. Capitanes will play next round against league's leader Immortals trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santiago - Immortals. Santiago Max will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Santiago Basket. It will be extra interesting game as Santiago Basket is their local rival from Santiago. Aneury Parra contributed with 27 points for the winners. Brahian Mendez answered with 29 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Ralph Bellamy (193, college: Harris-Stowe St.) added 23 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Del Patio. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Evolve OL maintains third place with 1-4 record having just three points less than leader Fenix, which they share with defeated Del Patio. It was Del Patio's third loss in a row. Evolve OL will play against Sameji (#4) in Santiago in the next round. Del Patio will play on the road against the league's leader Fenix in Santiago and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Forward Jonathan Aybar (206-2001, college: UNF) responded with 30 points and Randy Toribio scored 23 points and 8 rebounds. Four Fenix and five Sameji players scored in double figures. Fenix have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-0 record. Loser Sameji still closes the standings with five games lost.
